Rebuild Broken Congolese Communities

Congo Bomoko innovative community developers are making a real difference in the neighborhoods they are revitalizing, creating places that offer the physical, social and economic resources that all people need in order to live healthy lives. Cross-sector collaboration is a given in these projects, as are new ways of thinking about community revitalization. We are excited by the potential Congo Bomoko platform projects that will create lasting change for low-income communities.

Inadequate infrastructure, weak tax administration and poor enforcement, tax and investment policies based to a large extent on bureaucratic discretion as opposed to transparent rules, limited access to information technology, poor communication facilities, undeveloped financial services, and weak judiciaries have all militated against fuller engagement in the international economy. Armed conflicts in the East of DRC are damaging economic prospects in the nation. In many part of the country, the spread of instability and sickness are reducing labor productivity, youth education, and human welfare on a dramatic scale in those part of the country.

The existence of extreme poverty in several Congolese regions is a critical challenge that needs to be addressed urgently because of its adverse implications on human wellbeing.

Its manifestations include lack of adequate food and nutrition, lack of access to adequate shelter, lack of access to safe drinking water, low literacy rates, high infant and maternal mortality, high rates of unemployment, and a feeling of vulnerability and disempowerement. We believe poverty reduction can be attained by stimulating economic growth to increase incomes and expand employment opportunities for the poor; undertaking economic and institutional reforms to enhance efficiency and improve the utilization of resources; prioritizing the basic needs of the poor in national development policies; promoting microfinance programs to remove constraints to innovation, entrepreneurship, and small scale business; developing and improving marketing systems to improve production; providing incentives to the private sector; and, implementing affirmative actions such as targeted cash transfers to ensure that the social and economic benefits of poverty reduction initiatives reach the demographics that might otherwise be excluded..

Create Opportunity to Empower Poor Community

Experience has shown that when given clear and transparent rules, access to information, and appropriate technical and financial support, communities can effectively organize to identify community priorities and address local development challenges by working in partnership with local governments and other institutions to build small-scale infrastructure, deliver basic services and enhance livelihoods

Congo Bomoko fund provides immediate support to small local nonprofit organizations, and businesses owned by women, Indigenous, and youth for things like repairs, equipment, technology, building materials, and relocation expenses related to the damage. In order to decide how to distribute the future funding, and create a community advisory council to make funding decisions and the council created a decision-making process prioritizing transparency and fairness. We wanted the advisory council to accurately represent the community we serve, so we intentionally brought on board people with very diverse backgrounds
